Vaterra Twin Hammers Shifter Fix

The stock shifting servo in the Vaterra Twin Hammers is just not up to par. As well designed and built as the truck seems to be it is still disappointing to see that short coming. As you could probably see in my “First look” video I had already swapped in the stock steering servo to replace that mini servo that it comes with. However this servo seemed to have issues from the start as well, it may have been a weak servo from the factory. I decided I needed to work on a remedy and I shot some video of the final product.

The worst part about Hobbyking is the wait time to get your parts! They took almost 2 weeks to process my order but shipping from Hong Kong took only a day and a half (pretty incredible). When my parts arrived I gave everything a quick look and was immediately anxious to start assembling the quad. The knock-off Flamewheel frame looked pretty decent, I’ll have to compare it to a friends genuine Flamewheel and see if I can tell the difference. The KK2.0 board is a cool looking little piece, especially for the price point. My LCD screen does not appear to be attached very well however and I am concerned that this may become a problem. The rest of the parts were pretty straight forward, time to get setup and start assembling!

I have no idea why it has taken me this long to pull the trigger on getting into the realm of RC flight. I have been obsessed with it since I was a kid but even after all the money and projects I have gone through in this hobby, flying still didn’t make the cut. However last week I got a little push from a conversation I had at work. We discussed the possibility of using a multirotor vehicle to get aerial imagery of project sites. That was the only excuse I needed to finally do this! A Ready-to-Fly package was not the way I wanted to go (well it may have been nice but it’s so much cheaper to do it yourself!). I have toyed with this idea several times in the past, as they say I had just enough information to be dangerous. With my limited knowledge of what is needed I went on a spending spree over at HobbyKing, add in 3-day express shipping and hopefully this project gets kicked off soon!
