Q450 Frame w/PCB

Q450 Frame w/PCB

I have no idea why it has taken me this long to pull the trigger on getting into the realm of RC flight. I have been obsessed with it since I was a kid but even after all the money and projects I have gone through in this hobby, flying still didn’t make the cut. However last week I got a little push from a conversation I had at work. We discussed the possibility of using a multirotor vehicle to get aerial imagery of project sites. That was the only excuse I needed to finally do this! A Ready-to-Fly package was not the way I wanted to go (well it may have been nice but it’s so much cheaper to do it yourself!). I have toyed with this idea several times in the past, as they say I had just enough information to be dangerous. With my limited knowledge of what is needed I went on a spending spree over at HobbyKing, add in 3-day express shipping and hopefully this project gets kicked off soon!

Vanquish Products Currie Axle Video

Evol recently finished up his newest video for Vanquish Products. This video featured the Currie Rock Jock axles. I lent my Jeep to Aaron for the weekend so he could do some filming, I always like seeing my rigs in his well produced clips! Vaterra RC Twin Hammers

Vaterra RC Twin Hammers

It has been an exciting week! An exciting new release from a new company, Vaterra RC. This is a new company launched by Horizon Hobbies. Even though I am a Hobbico guy for the most part, this new car with Independent Front Suspension (IFS) with live rear axle is something the enthusiasts have been begging for. This is a 1.9 sized rig with some impressive features such as beadlock wheels and a two speed transmission. As soon as I heard of the release I made sure to get my name on the list.

Vanquish Products Currie Enterprises Axles

Currie1

I can’t think of a RC part I have ever looked forward to more than these axles. The idea that the Currie RockJock axles would be available in a scale version for the RC world had me excited from the start. For months I have talked with Vanquish on these axles, exchanging pictures and ideas, but mostly just getting sneak peeks at the awesome little details.

Vanquish Products Rigid Light Bar

Rigid2This weekend I received my Vanquish Products Rigid Industries LED Light Bar (6″). It’s exciting to see new officially licensed products enter the hobby, especially from new names! This new product is the mostly highly detailed lighting piece for scale crawlers to date. The housing is extruded aluminum that closely matches the real world Light Bars from Rigid Industries.

Dinky RC Axial JK “Head’n Tail Light” Set

dinky_logo_blk_lrg

dinkylightsToday I received a sample of the new Dinky RC Axial JK “Head’n Tail Light” Set.  The Axial Honcho had a light bucket included in the box that glued in behind the headlight area, however we didn’t get so lucky with the Axial Jeep Wrangler. Dinky came up with a clever product that not only gives you light buckets for all 4 of the front lights, but also includes some radiator detail that will show up through the grill. The tail light buckets are a two piece setup that houses a small LED holder to give you a look just like the hard plastic stock tail light pieces.

Today I received my order from Locked Up RC. They recently released their very own scale lug nuts (actually 4-40 screws with an acorn head). These are made specifically for Locked Up RC and offered to the public individually at a reasonable cost.

Axial XR10 Comp Rig

XR16For many years the 2.2 Class (now being called 2.2 Pro) has been the premier class in RC rock crawling. For the last couple of years the Axial Racing XR10 has been the choice for many of the top drivers in this class. I have been using this truck as my base since it was released in 2010. Since then almost every part has been replaced to make it the comp rig you see below. The most noticable change is the custom chassis. I designed and machined this chassis as I have done many times in the past. However this time I made the point of being more weight conscience as I designed it. This rig was not meant to be the uber-light as some have gone to but I still wanted to get down into the mid 4-pound range.

Axial Racing 2012 JK Unlimited Rubicon

Maiden voyage with the Axial Racing JK Unlimited Rubicon at Blue Springs Lake

I received my Axial JK Rubicon and couldn’t wait to get it out on the trail. A large amount of us have already owned Axial SCX10’s before. It has been an incredibly popular base for thousands of trucks. For those that haven’t though, it is a truck I would suggest to anyone. The realistic steel C-channel frame and proven axles have proven to be a solid combo since 2009. While most of the stuff underneath the body will not be a surprise to anybody that has owned an Axial, they have updated enough to make this truck stand out. Read more
